about

DJ Pelure is a young producer and DJ based in northern France’s Saint-Omer who has been heavily inspired by the Jersey Club sound. With his debut 420 EP (out on Coldpakk the 1st of April 2018) that influence is clearly audible yet each track provides hybrid experimentations with colder sounds and more rigid rhythm patterns resonating with the current state of French and Bérite Club music scene alongside some UK Bass reminiscences.

This release was also the perfect opportunity for us to draw a direct connection with the Jersey Club scene, which we regard as one the most innovative dance music sound in the world right now. We commissioned a remix from $Jayy, a truly multi-talented young producer, DJ & dancer from North Plainfield, New Jersey, shortlisted as one of the 10 Club music artist to watch in 2018 by Fact Magazine. The Cartel producer delivered a remix of the lead track way beyond our hopes with an absolutely stunning cold Jersey Club banger focusing on drums and percussions virtuosity.

1) The first track Confort opens with a menacing bass line balanced by playful female vocal snips. Grimy drum patterns build up before merging with a rigid bass kick groove later complemented with percussions and Jersey club related samples.

(2) 420’s intro combines popular hip-hop samples with smoking/coughing sounds before an enormous stomping rhythm kicks in. The second part of the track captivate attention with an oscillating patchwork of samples ranging from gun loading clicks to French rap vocal fragments.

(3) Retaining only a few elements of the original, $Jayy’s remix of 420 simplifies things even further and throws down a beast of a Jersey club banger with an impressive use of spacious percussion drums. Focused, sharp and minimal, the song also provides many delightful changes and variations in record time.

(4) The closing track is a DJ Pelure edit of British rapper Jimmery Caine’s song Hotting up. The MC’s voice, flow and lyrics levitate effortlessly over an odd re-constructed drum structure reminiscent of UK garage, before switching yet again into another solid bass kick-only affaire towards the end. Many thanks to Jimmery Caine for kindly authorizing this remix!
